West Norfolk race ace Jenson Sayell claimed the Super One InterMAX 950 championship lead at the weekend with two podium places putting him top of the table with two rounds to go.The Marshland St James driver took the fight to Jayjay Plowman at Whilton Mill after qualifying third in Round Nine and starting on the second row for the two heats.Sayell was hit whilst challenging for second in Heat 1 dropping down to finish sixth with both championship rivals Plowman and Moulton ahead of him.In Heat 2, Sayell finished fourth to qualify fourth on the grid for the Final behind Moulton and Plowman.Sayell passed Plowman on lap three for third a lap later Moulton dropped down prompting Sayell to third, before Plowman took the place back from Sayell on lap five. The two traded fastest laps nose to tail to the final lap when Sayell made his move on the final corner to drag race to the flag beating Plowman over the line for second.Sunday’s Round 10 saw a reversal of fortune when Sayell qualified 11th unable to find a gap to put in a good time. An amazing drive however in Heat 1 saw Sayell up to fifth at the end of lap two, overtake Plowman a lap later and into second on lap six where he finished. Heat 2 was another story. The race was full of incidents and he crossed the line a disappointing ninth. However, after post-race penalties, he was fifth and Plowman, having been given a penalty, was ninth. This put Sayell third on the grid for the Final with Plowman behind him in fifth. The youngster moved into second on lap six with Plowman shadowing him to the flag. The second runner-up podium place of the weekend moved Sayell ahead of Plowman to lead the championship by just 4 points going into the last two rounds at Shenington in Oxfordshire later this month. Proud mum Trudy said: “Jenson has had a fantastic first season in InterMax 950, we never thought that he would be continuously pushing for podiums in his first season.”We have had many positive comments from other teams, driver coaches and drivers saying that Jenson is far more developed/skilled as a driver for his age than he’d be expected to be. “We are very proud of him no matter what the outcome is in the final rounds.”Sayell was supported at the weekend by his team TWR, driver Coach Gaby of GW Driver development, Force Motorsport (engine supplier) and InfinityX.He thanks his parents Rob and Trudy and sponsors VROOAM Starlaneuk, Prestige Designs, Synergy Direct, Chris Phillips and local companies: JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean, and Professional Aesthetic Enhancements, King’s Lynn.
