Adam Lakeland believes summer arrival Ross Crane will get the fans sitting on the edge of their seats this season. The wide man made an instant impression on supporters with a delightful cameo off the bench against Northampton Town on Tuesday night. The former Ipswich Town player played a part in both Lynn goals in the final 25 minutes as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2.”That’s what we brought him here for,” said Lakeland”He’s a player who can impact games both from the start and off the bench.”Ross is a player who’s aggressive when he gets the ball, he wants to run at people, back defenders up into the box, go past people. He can go either way and he can score and he can create.”There’ll be loads of games where he starts and plays from the beginning, and there might be other games where we use him off the bench. “I think we saw tonight when we put him on we were on top and he caused absolute murder for people. “It just gives us a completely different weapon that we’ve not had since I’ve been here. I love players who can go by people and he’s certainly one of them.”The Lynn boss has left his players in no doubt about what he expects from them when they embark on the new National League North season on August 10.”You work hard or you won’t play and that applies to everyone,” said Lakeland. “The bare minimum every day you come into work for King’s Lynn is that you work hard. If you don’t, you don’t play.“The work rate from the front from Jonny (Margetts) and Gold (Omotayo) for the team was superb and I think that rippled throughout the team. “If there’s any let up in the work rate, from anyone, then they’ll be sat behind me.”Lakeland has also been encouraged by his side’s fitness levels. “I think to a man today everybody put a right shift in, but I think we’ve been doing that since July 1,” he said. “They’ve come back and they’ve embraced all the work that we’ve asked them to do.“They’ve shown a great willingness to get as fit as we possibly can, and I felt in that last 20-25 minutes against Northampton I thought we looked far superior physically and we looked like we could have gone another 20 minutes.“That’s going to be important for us this season.”After holding the Cobblers to a draw, Lakeland wants more of the same against Luton Town on Saturday in the club’s final friendly. “I want us just to look fit, competitive, on the front foot playing with confidence and an energy and tempo,” he said.”I think the way the supporters at the end clapped the lads off the pitch, I want more of that.”That’s what they will do if we give them something to clap about, so that’s up to me and the players to make sure that we do that week in, week out.”There has been no indication if former Linnets striker Joe Taylor will be part of the visiting Luton XI, but Lakeland is expecting a big test whatever side they bring. “It’ll be a tough game. I mean a Championship team who have come down from the Premier League, it’s going to probably be a Luton 11,” he said.”It won’t be their first team, but there might be a sprinkle of first-team players in there and any lads who are coming in from their under-23s and 18s so they should be top players.”Without a doubt, going to be another challenge for us, but that’s what we want. We want we wanted to finish pre-season with a couple of really tough games here.”
