Lynn expect to be much closer to fielding a full side for the bulk of their Premiership fixtures during the busy month of August.Injured Danish duo Benjamin Basso and Nicolai Klindt are both hopeful of returning to the Stars’ line-up, and Basso could be back in business as early as next week.He was due to practice in Poland today to test out his injured arm, and if he came through satisfactorily it could see him back in the team to face Leicester at the Adrian Flux Arena on Monday. The damage for Klindt was more long-term and he was initially expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering serious neck damage for the second season running. But he is due to visit his specialist next Thursday and if the healing process has gone according to plan, he could also return for the Stars later this month. That leaves just the vexed question of the No.1 position to address, and it could be that Lynn has to cut their losses on Tobisaz Musielak, who cannot be replaced by a rider of his level.Lynn may look to bring someone in of a lesser degree, and alter the balance of the team as a result, rather than continue in the difficult position of having to use guests of only up to 75 per cent of the absent Pole’s average. They did attempt to extend their facility to use comparable guests or rider replacement beyond the initial 28 days, on the basis that there was nobody available to sign, but that proved unsuccessful. Manager Rob Lyon said: “The authorities will tell you that’s the rules, rightly or wrongly, and we’ll all have opinions on it.“It’s obvious that our opinion is going to be that we should be given a facility for it, but we haven’t got one.“We could argue that point all day long but we’re not going to get anywhere with it. Ultimately there are no riders to come in to replace him, of that quality, which has always been our argument. “I’ve done that to death and I’m not even going to talk about it anymore. It is what it is, but it’s frustrating because we always said from the start of the season that the team we’d put together was capable of getting into the play-offs.“I think we keep proving it now and again, when we manage to field a decent side to fill these places, and we’re showing exactly that. “That was the case on Monday (against Sheffield) but then we found ourselves trying to find guests again on Thursday when only Belle Vue wasn’t racing, and they didn’t have anybody available, so it’s tricky.”Lynn has two home matches next week as they face Leicester on Monday and Belle Vue on Thursday, and should they win both it would keep them mathematically in the hunt for the play-offs.The battle for fourth place is between themselves, Oxford and Leicester, and whilst their two rivals have points on the board, Stars have home and away matches against both in late August and early September which could change the picture dramatically.
