King’s Lynn Town staged a stirring second-half comeback to hold Northampton Town to a 2-2 draw at the Walks. The League One Cobblers found themselves two goals in front at the interval thanks to efforts from a trialist and James Wilson. But National League North Lynn were a different animal in the second half and replied through Jonny Margetts and Bartosz Cybulski to earn themselves an excellent draw.Gold Omotayo had the first sniff of goal after his shot on the turn took a deflection to force Nik Tzanev into save. The big frontman was on defensive duty minutes later as he headed a Northampton corner clear.Northampton’s Will Hondermarck forced Paul Jones into his first save of the evening before Max Dibley-Dias played a through ball to Morton who laid it back for the trialist to sweep into the bottom corner. The Cobblers doubled their advantage 14 minutes before the break after Kyle Callan-McFadden lost possession on the edge of the box and was duly punished by an emphatic finish from Wilson. Lynn were far from overawed against their higher-league visitors and 13 minutes into the second half Freddie Sass saw his thunderous long-range effort come back off the post. The hosts made a triple change early in the second period, and one of them – Ross Crane – created the Lynn reply.A brilliant turn and threaded pass from the former Leiston man found Josh Hmami, whose effort was brilliantly saved by the visiting goalkeeper before Margetts gobbled up the rebound.Five minutes later, Crane’s free-kick took a wicked deflection and was superbly kept out by the Northampton custodian low down to his left. The equaliser arrived 11 minutes from time as substitute Kian Ronan crossed from the right and Cybulski poked home with the help of the post.Lynn almost won it in injury time as Fin Whiteley’s shot crept just wide of the target. The Linnets take on a Luton Town XI in their final pre-season outing on Saturday before their National League opener at home to Warrington Town on August 10.King’s Lynn Town: Jones, Sass (trialist 80), McFadden (Isaacson 86), Taylor, Coulson (Cybulski 63), Hmami (trialist 80), Hughes, Omotayo (Whiteley 80), Margetts, McCammon (Crane 63), Crowe (Ronan 63).
