West Norfolk’s Luke is the golden boy at Cambridge in athletics championship.

Young West Norfolk athletes made their mark at the Eastern Athletics Championship at Cambridge.Under-15 star Luke Anderson experienced another tremendous day.In the first heat of the 200m, Anderson stormed a second place with a personal best time of 26.94sec, qualifying for the final and then went on to take the gold medal with a 27.14sec run.In the first heat of the 100m, he finished in first place with 13.50sec run but went on to finish fifth in a hard-fought final in 13.53sec.Also having a great day was fellow U15 athlete Matas Petreikis who won the 75m hurdles in 14.07sec and took the silver medal in the long jump with a 4.39m leap.Adding to her brilliant season, under-15 athlete Rebecca Johnson won the silver medal in the 75m hurdles final against top-class opposition in 11.53sec – another new personal best performance.Johnson also qualified for the 100m final after a second-place finish in heat one in 12.89sec and went on to finish fourth in the 100m final in 12.76sec. Sisters, “The Jackson two,” had a good day also. U13 Elly Jackson was fourth in the high jump with a 1.20m leap whilst U15 Isla Jackson won bronze in the triple jump, with a 9.11m jump and in the long jump finished twelfth with a 4.06m leap.U20 athlete Thomas O’Neill finished fifth in the 100m final in 12.23sec and 200m final 24.38sec in fourth place, both performances were new personal bests.Second claim athlete, U17 Charlie Broad won a bronze in the shot put with a distance of 12.52m and in the long jump finished in fifth place with a 5.32m jump.This week, Broad heads to Birmingham in the shot as part of the Norfolk schools team.
