West Norfolk third in Eastern Athletics League

A glorious day greeted competitors for the third match in the Eastern Athletics League held at the Sportspark at the UEA in Norwich.Six teams competed, including West Norfolk, City of Norwich, Yarmouth, Waveney Valley, Attleborough, and Thetford.This was the deciding match, and teams will have to wait to see if they have made the final match in September.For this league, West Norfolk competes as a composite team made up of athletes from Dereham and North Norfolk Harriers.There seemed to be a few athletes and officials hit by a bug that had been going around, so numbers were lower than expected. With officials having to often stay out in the field for extra long to make sure all the events could be completed.There were some excellent performances on show for those athletes who did attend.The under-13 boys team finished second with 79 points. Luke Anderson finished with a triple crown of first place finishes, in the A string 100m in 13.5sec, first in the A string 200m in 27.8sec (PBs) and first in the B string long jump, 4.20m. Rhys Howard was fifth in the A string 800m in 3m38.7sec and fifth in the shot with 4.19m.Matas Petreikis was first in the 75m hurdles in 14.4sec, first in the long jump, 4.35m and second in the high jump with 1.25m .Wilf Gosnell finished third in the A string javelin, with a PB 17.70m throw, and was a non-scorer in the discus, 12.62m. The 4x100m relay team finished fourth in 65.0sec.The under-13 girls’ team were fifth overall with 32 points and the under-15 boys’ team finished were third with 36 points. There was a second-place finish for the under-15 girls’ team with 84 points.Rebecca Johnson was first in the 75m hurdles, 12.0sec and recorded two second-place finishes in the A string 100m with a time of 12.7sec and in the shot 7.82m (PBs). Myley Gilboy finished second in the B string 100m in 14.5sec, second in the B string 200m in 30.7sec and was a non-scorer in the shot 5.70m (PB).Anya Faithorn threw a new PB in the A string javelin, 20.86m and was a non-scorer in the 200m 30.8sec.The 4x100m relay team finished in second place in 59.6sec.The under-17 men’s team finished fourth with 28 points. Charlie Frammingham finished third in the high jump, 1.35m, and as a non-scorer in the shot threw 8.34m and in the triple jump, with 10.44m for third.Edward Murray also chose field events over the middle distance. Murray finished second in the discus, 13.95m and third place in the javelin, 10.40m.The under-17 women’s team finished fifth with 21 points.Evie Clayton was a non-scorer in the 800m, running a PB in 2m40.9sec and Olivia Allen was a non-scorer in the 800m 2m52.4sec. The senior men’s team finished third with 88 points.Cameron Ross finished third place in the B string 200m in 29.3sec, fourth in the A string 100m in 13.0sec and fourth in the long jump, 4.52m.Chris Elmer finished third in the A string 800m in 2m09.0sec and was second in the B string 1500m in 4m36.2sec.Mitchell Bunn was second in the A string 1500m in 4m11.3sec. Adam Howard finished second in the B string Javelin, 31.42m, second in the B string long jump, 3.52m, third in the B string discus, 19.12m, and third in the A string hammer, 16.63m.Rob Gosnell, was third in the A string shot with a 7.63m put.The 4x100m relay team finished third in 56.7sec.The senior women’s team finished third with 70 points. Lucy Edwards was third in the A string 100m in 13.9sec and third in the A string long jump 4.89m.Lily Frammingham was third in the B string 10m in 14.6sec, fourth in the A string 200m in 31.0sec and second in the B string long jump 4.43m.Hannah Greenhalgh finished the 400m A string in 60.7sec.Cassie Moden finished first place in the 1500m B string in 5m14.3sec and second in the A string 800m in 2m36.8sec, Esme Jonas finished first in the A string 1500m in 5m.12.8sec.Lily Edwards was third in the B string shot with 4.04m, fourth in the B string discus 11.23m, fourth in the B string Javelin 6.97m and was also a non-scorer in the long jump with 2.06m.Emma Dewdney finished fourth in the A string shot with 6.07m and fourth in the A string discus with 15.96m.Under-11 girl Sofia Gilboy had a 2.69m leap in the long jump ran the 80m race in 13.8sec and threw a PB in the shot of 4.71m.Under-11 boy James Watts finished the 600m race with a PB of 1m53.7sec, 80m race in 13.0sec.The entire team of all ages combined finished the match in third spot overall behind Yarmouth in second and City of Norwich who took the win.As always, well done to team manager Sharon Ross and all the officials’ helpers, volunteers, athletes, and parents for all their fantastic efforts on the day.
