Solid Sayell continues good form in Cumbria

InterMAX kart racer Jenson Sayell delivered some more solid drives in the fourth round of the Cadet Kart Championship at the weekend.The Marshland St James driver made the seven-hour journey to Rowrah, in Cumbria, worthwhile with four runner-up places and a third-place finish in the final.Friday practice went well and heading the table for much of Saturday’s qualifying session Sayell eventually finished third.He got a good start in Heat One from third, beating championship leader Gilman into second but was overtaken by Gilman a lap later who went on to take the lead from Plowman.Sayell got by Plowman for second around mid-distance but was pushed wide dropping back to third.A determined drive saw him pass Plowman on the penultimate lap to finish second.Heat two again saw the youngster nail the start to take second but Gilman soon demoted both Sayell and leader Plowman. The three drivers pulled away lapping nose to tail. Plowman left a gap on the inside on lap five, which Sayell was quick to fill for second place finishing just 0.58 behind Gilman at the flag five laps later.Super Heat one saw Sayell make a good start from the outside front row tucking in behind leader Gilman.Five consecutive personal best laps saw Sayell close on Gilman and finish 2.3 seconds clear in a second.. The second Super Heat was closer but despite a strong challenge from behind throughout the race Sayell held on for his fourth runner-up place of the weekend.Sayell qualified on the outside front row for the 10-minute final. The youngster made an excellent start initially taking the lead from Gilman and a four-way battle ensued.Sayell held second until being nudged wide on lap 11 of 14 dropping to third and then fourth. A post-race penalty however promoted Sayell to a very creditable third.
