King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland has completed his third piece of summer business with the capture of a new defender. The Linnets have brought in left-sided defender Freddie Sass following his departure from fellow National League North side Marine.Manager Adam Lakeland tried to sign the player during his time in the dugout at Curzon Ashton.Lakeland said: “He’s a left-back but he’ll be a left wing-back for us. He’s good size, he can move and run, has a good turn of pace and can get up and down the pitch.”He delivers a good ball from wide areas when he is crossing. He has a long throw, which will give us a different weapon at certain times in games and every time I’ve watched him he is a player who is fully committed.”I tried to get him at Curzon Ashton from Mossley prior to him going to Southport and obviously it didn’t quite work out there for him. “It probably didn’t help with the manager who signed him leaving quite early on and that disrupted the first half of last season. “He finished it incredibly well and played a big part in helping Marine get promoted to the National League North. He’s a player who will come and give everything for the club and I’m pleased to get it over the line.”Sass began his career at Egerton FC before spells at Stalybridge Celtic, Tadcaster Albion and Mossley, moving to Southport last summer. He also had a loan spell at NPL club Macclesfield earlier last season before making the switch to Marine in January. The Mariners – promoted from the Northern Premier League last term – offered Sass a new deal but the defender decided to pursue the offer of full-time football. On joining Lynn, Cheshire-based Sass said: “Delighted to have signed for King’s Lynn. It’s been a goal of mine to go full-time for a while now and when the opportunity came up it was a no-brainer for me. “After meeting with Adam, the club looks to be going in the right direction and has plans to compete at the top which is something that attracted me to the club.”I’m excited for the new challenge and can’t wait to get going.”
