Two more podiums for Marshland St James driver

West Norfolk karting ace Jenson Sayell drove his InterMAX 950 to two more podium finishes in the Super One Series at the weekend.The youngster claimed second and third places respectively in Saturday and Sunday’s finals of rounds five and six.His latest drives saw him move up to second in the overall standings at the halfway point of the season.Friday’s practice in the dry went well with Sayell quick straight ‘out of the box’ despite not having been there since last year.During Saturday’s warm up Sayell took several fastest laps and looked good.In qualifying, the Marshland St James driver looked good for pole but was pipped in the closing couple of laps missing out by just 0.14 seconds to championship leader Plowman, finishing second.Starting on the outside in Heat One, Sayell dropped to third on the start lap but retook the place on lap two and then trailed a dominant Plowman all race to finish well clear in second, also taking the fastest Sector three. Plowman took the early lead from the pole in Heat Two.Sayell’s kart had started to come on making a challenge look possible when the race was red-flagged on lap seven after a kart further down the field hit the tyre barrier. The race result was called as at the last completed lap, so with the remaining six laps cancelled Sayell finished second just 0.7 seconds behind, again taking the fastest sector three.The final saw Plowman stretch away at the front and Sayell had to settle for the second step on the podium, whilst defending from his new teammate Esser who finished third. Sunday’s round six Qualifying was disappointing, Sayell finishing out fourth with Plowman and Esser on the front row.Sayell’s team made changes for Heat One which brought his pace closer to Plowman. Esser took the lead from P2 on the grid and it was soon a four-kart race at the front with Esser, Plowman, Sayell and Stafford doing battle finishing in the same order at the flag.Stafford took the fastest lap with Sayell taking the fastest sector three. Heat two proved eventful with the West Norfolk driver moving up into third on lap three but was pushed out wide onto the marbles, dropping down the order to finish eighth on track but seventh after penalties.The final proved to be a race of attrition. With a grid slot of fifth, Sayell dropped to sixth on the start, was back up to fifth a lap later but was then nudged wide and dropped again.A great drive with some textbook overtakes he clawed his way back up to third by the flag for another podium place.Dad Rob commented: “We are very pleased to have jumped to second in the championship at the halfway point with some solid driving netting Jenson some good points scores this weekend.”Championship leader Plowman is in his final year in InterMAX whereas Jenson is in his first year so I’m impressed with his progress.”Sayell thanks his Team TWR, driver coach GW Driver Development, Force Motorsport for engine support and his sponsors Infinity X, JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean and Professional Aesthetic Enhancements Kings Lynn, Prestige Designs and Chris Phillips – Superstox 99.Sayell will be out again next weekend to compete at HKRC’s 2024 Kimbolton Festival event.The youngster is currently heading the HKRC Minimax 950 table after four of 12 rounds.
