There were defeats for all three West Norfolk representatives in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division this afternoon.
Downham Town lost 2-0 at home to Walsham le Willows, Fakenham were edged out 2-1 at Thetford Town while Heacham were beaten 3-2 on home soil by Ely City.
Heacham’s two-game winning streak was brought to an abrupt end, despite Paulius Falcao heading them into a half-time lead against the Robins.
Former King’s Lynn and March Town striker Jack Friend levelled the scores after the restart and, although a deflected shot from Ben Coe put the hosts back in front, late goals from Charlie Castle and Luke Mansfield so the visitors go home with all three points.
Heacham boss David Griggs said: “We didn’t do enough to kill the game off in the first half. We should have come in at the break two or three goals up and then it would have all been about game management in the second half.
“Although we had a couple of chances to score in the second half, mistakes have led to all three of Ely’s goals, we were very poor.
“The first half was acceptable but we should have been a lot more ruthless. That’s three points dropped.”
Two second-half goals condemned Downham Town to back-to-back defeats at the SCL Memorial Field as Walsham le Willows went home with a 2-0 win.
After the game Downham Tweeted: “A really poor and out-of-character performance today as we suffer back-to-back defeats.
“Not the response we were after in what was a very scrappy game throughout. Both sides were limited to a only couple of chances each and the visitors were the more clinical.”
There was also no luck for Fakenham Town as the Ghosts suffered a 2-1 loss at fourth-placed Thetford Town, who had former Linnets midfielder Cameron King among their goalscorers.
The only bright spot for West Norfolk came at the Uncle Luke’s Stadium where Swaffham Town ran out convincing 5-0 winners over Haverhill Borough.
