Heacham delivered a workmanlike performance in the FA Vase to progress to the First Round Proper in their debut season in the competition.

A classy finish into the top corner from Nathan Davies settled the Magpies down before substitute Jack Noble confirmed the club’s progression by slotting home a second in injury time.

Goalkeeper Arron Watson made a fantastic save to keep Heacham ahead early in the second half while young striker Colby Wood came on and gave another good account against the club’s First Division North opponents.

Heacham manager David Griggs said: “We weren’t perhaps at our best and never really got out of third gear, but the result was the most important aspect of the afternoon.

“It’s a good sign when you don’t play well but pick up a win and keep a clean sheet.

“It’s a positive result and another draw at home would be nice in the next round.”

Assistant boss Ross McNeil added: “To make history for the club and all the committee and volunteers was a special feeling.

“We all know how much hard work has gone on behind the scenes and yesterday’s performance and win was for all of them.

“As a club we have a fantastic team on and off the pitch.

“We would like to give committee member and supporter John Cross a special mention. He’s coming to watch home games, in his wheelchair and we are delighted he’s making a recovery from illness.”
