Clenchwarton youngsters raise awareness of charity

Newly-formed Clenchwarton Navy Under 9s have joined forces with Motor Neurone Disease Association to continue to raise awareness of the disease.

The under-9s received sponsorship from a local business that didn’t want to be named.

Chairman Ben Hails suggested they had a charity on the front of the shirt and, due to the close relationship with the charity, the team decided on MNDA.

Hails said: “As a club, we are delighted to be supporting the MNDA and be able to help them spread the word about the fantastic work and research they do using our reach within grassroots football.

“We are a family-run club and we currently have 12 youth teams. We aim to introduce children to the game in a fun and family-friendly environment.”

Team manager Dan Hill added: “Clenchwarton U9s Navy are aiming high this season. The team joins Clenchwarton’s already bustling and well-established grassroots set-up and we can’t thank our sponsor enough for supporting us.

Jane Lewis, from the MNDA, added: “The MND Association logo on the Clenchwarton Under 9s kit will really help to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, right through the year – especially amongst youngsters and their families.

“It will help us to build on the publicity generated nationally by the high profile of Rob Burrows, Doddie Weir, Stephen Darby and others over the last three years.”
