Run Sandringham 24 attracted a large field of runners of all abilities, including five members of West Norfolk Athletic Club, to the winter residence of the Royal Family.

Participants ran a 24 Hour Race around the Sandringham Estate and surrounding trails, helping to raise thousands of pounds for good causes, and a huge army of volunteers made this superb event possible over the 3-day period.

Competing under the name of “The West Norfolk Dinosaurs” they finished in second place.

The team comprised of club chairperson Gavin Lane, Richie Walker, Tim Coates, Jason Moore, and Martin Koenigsberger.

The total run time was 23hr.29m.43sec and they completed six laps each and covered 150 miles in total.

Rather impressively, solo club runner Katrina Wasterney completed 16 laps in 23hrs.53m.51sec to finish sixth in the women’s race and cover a total of 80 miles.

On the same weekend at the Dereham 5k run, under-17 athlete Charlie Frammingham finished 31st overall in a time of 17m.42.1sec, a fantastic personal best run.

Dad, Digby Frammingham, Vets 60-64 athlete, finished 108th in 19m.54.5sec.

Under-17 junior athlete Evie Clayton was 181st in 21m.46.8sec.

West Norfolk also had representatives at The Coll Half Marathon and 5k in Scotland.

All those taking part were at times finding themselves being subjected to winds of speeds of up to 50 miles-per-hour.

That, however, did not deter two brave young West Norfolk athletes from taking the spoils in the 5Km event so far from home.

Under-17 athlete Ed Murray and his brother, under-13 ace Thomas, finished first and second respectively in the 5k race that day.

Ed clocked 19m.39sec and Thomas 22m.13sec.

It was a long way to go to compete, but great determination shown in the harsh Scottish weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the club had four young athletes competing at the South of England Athletics Championships at the Lee Valley Stadium in London.

Under-15 boy Charlie Broadn had one event early in the morning and then his second event at the end of the day.

Broad did well to stay composed and still achieve some of his best results in a packed-out field of top athletes.

He was sixth in the shot with an 11.35m put and finished 10th in the long jump with a 5.34m leap.

Under-15 athlete Mia Lesniak, was sixth in Heat One of the 75m hurdles in 14.08sec and finished 10th in the discus with an 18.82m throw.

Fellow Under-15 Rebecca Johnson was fourth in Heat Three of the 75m hurdles in 12.23sec, just missing out on qualification to the final and finished 19th in the long jump with a 3.84m jump.

Both athletes have another year in this age group and will have gained valuable experience by performing against some of the best young athletes in the country.

Under-13 athlete Harrison Lesniak was eighth in Heat Two of the 100m with a valiant 15.44m performance.
