A crowd of more than 400 were packed into Grimston Cricket Ground on Sunday for their annual Family Fun Day, which saw the club Legends take on the current squad for the Mark Redhead Memorial Trophy.
The build up during the week had been electric for this flagship event, with families travelling from across the region to enjoy the bouncy castles, bar and barbeque,
Also present was the World Championship Snail Racing which returned to its spiritual home at Grimston Cricket Ground.
Lord Henry Bellingham begun proceedings with the official opening of the Mark Redhead Stand, with Mark’s son Ollie Redhead cutting the ribbon – a touching moment and a fitting tribute to the former captain.
The Legends team won the toss and chose to bat, with the standout batting performances from A. Gibson (82 not out) and J. Redhead (40).
The Legends finished their innings on 161 for 5.
2023 Grimston captain M. Tilbrook opened the batting alongside L. Kellegher, with the two putting on a strong opening partnership before Kellegher was felled by P. Hudson.
Tilbrook was dismissed soon after, and as the pressure built so did the atmosphere with the Mark Redhead Stand packed to capacity with a raucous crowd.
The 2023 squad finished their innings on 10, with the Legends team winners for the first time.
Legends captain Martin Redhead was thrilled, saying: “Mark would’ve said it’s about time we won it.”
Martin went on to thank the volunteers who helped to make the day happen, including Francis Wain Jewellers who sponsored the match.
“We can’t do any of this fantastic work without a huge team of volunteers and sponsors, it’s a big undertaking and I know Mark will be watching on and smiling,” he said.
