Downham Stow secured a vital 22-run victory at Garboldisham in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division on Saturday – a result which may prove vital going into the second round of games
Winning the toss, away captain Otto Esse elected to bat first on a used wicket.
The batting innings got off to a poor start and struggled to build any partnerships slumping to 64 for 6.
The only recognisable partnerships came through keeper George Cook (44) Otto Esse (19) and Addam Todd chipping in with (16).
Through some sheer hard work Downham Stow managed to get themselves to a defendable 175 off 50 overs.
In reply, Garboldisham came out with an attacking mindset which saw them flying with the total on 40 for 3 off the opening four overs.
Spin was introduced within the power play which slowed the run rate down.
The home side consolidated for a period which brought them to 108 before the fifth wicket fell.
From there Downham Stow were able to pick up regular wickets, with three of them falling on the score of 132 thanks to seam bowler Joe Moss.
Garboldisham were eventually dismissed for 153.
On Saturday, Downham Stow travel to Norwich.
