King’s Lynn manager Alex Brady insists the spirit remains high despite a testing start to the season.
Brady and co-boss Dale Allitt had cause to question the desire in their team after a heavy home defeat to Sheffield in the Knockout Cup, and were similarly concerned by a poor start at Ipswich in their last away fixture on May 1.
But Brady says those questions have received positive answers, and he believes they have a group who can grow as the season continues.
He said: “The feeling is actually very upbeat, and people are determined to put things right.
“We had a bit of a thrash through things, obviously over WhatsApp because riders have been flying to different places.
“From my end it went along the lines of, ‘I’m not prepared to give up here, but if anyone wants to throw the towel in now, let me know, private message me now.’
“Every single one of them came back to me and said they were really up for the fight, and if I’m honest I think the defining moment for us came in the last race of the Ipswich meeting.
“We were already 14 points down at that point so we couldn’t do anything in the match, but Nicolai (Klindt) and Fred (Jakobsen) went either side of Danny King for a 3-3 when it would have been just as easy to settle in and get back safely so to speak.
“They showed real determination to do that, and the other riders all greeted them at the pits gate so everybody felt a bit more upbeat after that.
“We had the chat afterwards and everyone was in much better spirits, and hopefully now we can get things sorted and move forward.”
The Stars were in action against their struggling local rivals Peterborough last night (Thursday) with the return fixture coming up at the East of England Arena on Monday.
Skipper Josh Pickering could be back for that meeting as he intends to practice and possibly race in Poland this weekend after his shoulder injury, and if all goes to plan he will be back for the return fixture.
And the Stars will certainly be looking for points, especially as two more matches against their bogey team Sheffield also loom on the horizon, with a visit to Owlerton coming next Thursday.
