Rink hockey players from Lynn displayed plenty of battling quality as they came from behind to beat Soham 6-4 in the Premier League.
Lynn knew this would be a difficult game given Soham’s recent form and knew the result could have a huge effect on the outcome of the league title.
Despite both teams having a couple chances it was Lynn who broke through first with a neat finish from Josh Taylor to make it 1-0.
Soham answered back quickly with a goal of their own to make it 1-1 after a Lynn mistake.
It was then Soham’s turn to take a hold of the game, as they were able to split the defence with an accurate pass and took the lead to make it 2-1 through a flick shot.
Soham put the pressure on the Lynn side as they scored another, to make it 3-1 with five minutes to play before half-time.
The home side refused to panic and the next passage of play saw Jack Tucker reduce the deficit to 3-2 with a wrap around.
Lynn seemed to find their composure in the second half, starting confidently with multiple chances after retaining the majority of possession.
It was Josh Taylor who then stepped up again as a great individual play saw him beat one of the Soham defenders and nutmeg an unsuspecting keeper to put the reds back on level terms.
The game flowed back and forth, but it was once again Soham who fought back to restore their lead as they found a hole in the home defence.
Not long after, captain Taylor again found himself on the scoresheet after he deflected a slapshot from Ryan Barnes left the Soham goalkeeper with no chance.
Locked at 4-4, it was something of a tense affair going into the last five minutes of the game.
Lynn gave away the 10th team foul which led to a direct from Soham.
However the direct was no match for keeper Tom Allander.
The save from Allander had inspired the Lynn team as they put the pressure on Soham in the final phases.
After a shot on goal there was a scramble at the goalmouth which Harvey Dugdale was able to slot home against Soham after battling in the area.
With nothing to lose Soham threw everything at the Lynn team in the dying minutes, but Lynn held off.
Soham finally pulled their keeper in a last-ditch attempt to bag an equaliser, but Harvey Dugdale regained possession and was able to finish into the empty net to solidify the Lynn result.
This was a hard fought victory for the Lynn side, who ultimately showed a lot of character to bring the game back into their own hands.
