King’s Lynn Town may have cruised to a 3-0 victory over Spennymoor Town at The Walks this afternoon, but manager Tommy Widdrington wasn’t pleased with parts of his side’s performance.
Adam Crowther gave the hosts a first-half lead before substitute Jordan Ponticelli and Michael Clunan added to the advantage after the restart, as Lynn strengthened their place in second place.
The Linnets remain two points behind AFC Fylde – who make the trip to The Walks in a huge game on Tuesday night.
Reflecting on the win – Lynn’s first success for four games – Widdrington said: “I’m delighted with the win, it doesn’t matter how you get them.
“I don’t think we played as well today as we did against Farsley Celtic would you believe but the 1500 people have gone home really happy with a 3-0 win.
“I just felt we didn’t reach the standards we’ve set as a group for 90 minutes, but to win 3-0 whilst doing that is a massive positive and we can move onto the next game quickly.
“We’ve had a really good week with two points on the road and a home win which is good as I can ask for, although we could have won both of those games away.
“I’ll never ever, ever question the lads’ application and effort, whatever you want to call it.”
Lynn’s boss – forced to watch from the stands due to a one-game touchline ban – explained the double change at the break.
“Sometimes you have players who are technical players who have off days you know because their touch isn’t quite there,” he said.
“I want them to work harder at that but then I also need to get something out of them if I they’re not giving me what I know they can.
“That’s why I made the changes I did at half-time because we just wasn’t retaining the ball well enough.”
