West Norfolk Swimming Club have enjoyed a sensational start to the 2025/26 campaign, storming to victory in two major events in the space of a weekend.
The action began with the club’s youngsters travelling to St Ives Swimming Pool for the Junior Fenland League final.
Facing fierce opposition from Wisbech A, Ely and the hosts St Ives, the squad of nine to 13-year-olds rose to the challenge and produced a string of eye-catching swims to claim the coveted title of 2025 champions.
Led by coach Oli Kenny, West Norfolk outshone their rivals with a combination of team spirit, talent and determination, earning the trophy and setting the tone for the season ahead.
There was no time to rest, however, as the following day saw the club take to the water again at the Nifty Fifties gala in Thetford.
If the previous day’s result was impressive, this performance was nothing short of dominant.
By the end of the meet, West Norfolk had amassed a haul of 37 medals, sweeping to the trophy for top visiting club.
Standout swims came thick and fast, with Junru Cai taking gold in the 50m freestyle, while Kirill Ivanenco underlined his versatility by winning both the 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley.
Martha More was unstoppable across her programme, striking gold in all six of her events, and Lily Nell produced an outstanding treble with victories in the 50m freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly.
Nikita Diadko added further success in the 50m breaststroke and butterfly, while Betsy Chadderton completed the roll of honour with wins in the 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley.
Silver medals went to Morgan Arthur, Alexandra Cerps, Maya Marcinek and Daisy Morris, while Charlotte Wells, Ellie Kitt and Ethan Williams contributed valuable bronzes to the tally.
Adding to the feel-good factor, six swimmers from the club have been selected to represent the county at the prestigious Go Cardless Swim England National County Team Championships in Sheffield on Sunday.
Millie Harris, Joshua Jones, Alexander Pattinson, Olivia Bradford, Harry Clarke and Valeria Solditihhina have all been selected – the highest number from West Norfolk in the club’s history.
With early silverware secured, a growing medal count, and record county representation, West Norfolk Swim Club has set the bar high.
