Pelicans Ladies produced a sizzling performance on a sweltering afternoon as they swept aside Peterborough 2nds with an emphatic 5-0 victory.

The opening stages of the East Women’s Division 2 North West clash were cagey under the blazing sun, as both sides struggled to find rhythm in the heat.

But it was the home side who broke the deadlock, when Clair Morton was quickest to react in the D, tapping home after a clever assist from Keona Sequeira.

That opener gave the Pelicans the spark they needed, and once the sun began to dip in the second half, the tempo lifted with it.

Playing with growing confidence and plenty of attacking flair, Pelicans began to dominate, with impressive displays across the pitch from Emiley Pluck, Millie Lynch, Bowers, and Sequeira.

The pressure soon told.

A Peterborough defender was penalised for blocking a shot on the line with her foot, handing Pelicans a penalty stroke.

Kaylim Bowers stepped up with ice-cool composure and fired her flick past the keeper to make it 3–0, sending her teammates into raptures.

With momentum fully in their favour, the hosts continued to turn the screw.

Lynch capped off a fine all-round display by netting her first senior goal, a special moment for the youngster, who was also named Player of the Match for her tireless energy and influence.

By the final whistle, Pelicans had stormed to a five-goal cushion, underlining their dominance and sending a clear message for the season ahead.

While the goalscorers grabbed the headlines, there was still time for some light-hearted relief after what was an excellent performance.

Karise Sherry earned the squad’s “Dud of the Day” award after tripping over her own feet with no opponent in sight, a moment of comedy that had both teammates and spectators laughing.

The ladies will head into their next clash at Cambridge Nomads on Saturday, brimming with belief.
