Marshland St James kart racer Jenson Sayell capped off a superb weekend at the Hunts Kart Racing Club in Kimbolton with a dominant win in the final.

And his latest success on the track came while debuting a brand-new Sonic the Hedgehog helmet design.

Fresh from completing a strong 2025 campaign in the CKC and Super One championships, where he secured third place and a Vice Champion finish, Sayell returned to Kimbolton brimming with confidence.

Despite not racing at the circuit since March, a productive Saturday testing session set him up well for race day.

Lining up fourth on the grid for Heat One, Sayell found himself pushed wide at the opening corner, dropping to sixth.

Running with an experimental carburettor setting that didn’t deliver the hoped-for performance, he fought back to fourth but ultimately crossed the line in fifth.

The result left him determined to respond and the chance came in Heat Two, run in damp and greasy conditions after pre-race rain.

With tyre strategy crucial, father and mechanic Rob Sayell gambled on slicks, despite some rivals opting for wets.

The call proved decisive.

Starting from fifth, the youngster launched into second by the first corner before snatching the lead on lap two.

As the weather fluctuated, he briefly slipped back but regained control when the rain returned, pulling clear to win by 1.3 seconds – the perfect christening for his new helmet.

That result put Sayell third on the grid for the Final, staged in torrential rain.

Conditions were treacherous, but Sayell thrived. Quickly moving into second, he seized the lead on lap two and never looked back, showcasing outstanding kart control to adapt his lines and find grip.

He took the chequered flag 0.9 seconds clear, securing a memorable victory.

Rob Sayell praised his son’s composure, saying: “Jenson showed his excellent kart control during the very tricky conditions and was thrilled to get a top step podium in the Final with his RPM engine.

“The Sonic design has a family connection too, my Dad Harry ran Sonic on his oval race cars during his career, so it’s a nice link.”

Sayell expressed his thanks to DashWraps for delivering the helmet in person, along with RPM engines and his 2025 sponsors, including Pantano, JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Sun Lounge Tanning Studio, Hall Clean, Chris Phillips – Superstox 99, Vrooam, InfinityX Motorsport and Greyhound Racing Seats UK.
