King’s Lynn Town head coach James Rowe praised his side after they powered into the next round of the FA Cup with a commanding 4-1 win at Chesham.
Goals from Morgan Williams, Cameron Forde-Brown and a brace from Gold Omotayo ensured Lynn’s passage, with Rowe left delighted by the variety and quality of the finishes on show.
Rowe said: “There were some fantastic goals in that game. Their free-kick was first-class, right into the top bins, but Morgan’s opening goal was excellent.
“To get the ball up and down from 19 or 20 yards is a tough skill, and it showed his great technical ability.
“We scored different types of goals and dictated a lot of the space and the ball. When we connect those two things, like I’ve said from the start of the season, we’re a very talented group.”
The tie, which stretched beyond 100 minutes following a stoppage for a heavy thunderstorm in the second half, saw Lynn regain their rhythm after the interruption.
Lynn’s head coach praised his players for maintaining focus when the game resumed.
“We could have scored a fourth before the break in play, and they changed their shape, but we adapted really well,” he said.
“We looked fitter and stronger than the opposition and could have had more on the day.”
Rowe again highlighted the impact of his young players, with Williams and Forde-Brown both finding the net.
“To have a 19-year-old who was outstanding, and a 20-year-old opening the scoring like that, is really good for the club,” he enthused.
He also expressed his delight for striker Gold Omotayo, who finally got his reward with a double. “I said to him before the game that I felt it was his time.
“He’s been very unfortunate not to get off the mark, so I’m delighted for him. He’s buzzing in there, got his song on in the changing room.”
Despite the emphatic win, Rowe has urged caution, mindful of the need to back up the performance when they travel to Marine next weekend.
Rowe said: “Let’s not get carried away. It’s a one-off game, a dangerous place to come, and it was a hard draw.
“Last time we had a big result away from home, we didn’t follow it up well on the Saturday, so we’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
“It’s a process and there’s a lot of work going on, but the lads are reacting brilliantly. There’s a great togetherness building, and our supporters were outstanding again today.”
Lynn’s players will now enjoy a well-earned breather before preparing for the challenge ahead.
“It’s been a real stint, nine games in 28 days,” Rowe said.
“The boys deserve to enjoy this one tonight, have a day off with their families, and then we’ll be back to work on Monday.”
