West Norfolk AC athletes continued their fine summer form with a series of strong performances at the Norfolk Open, at Norwich’s UEA SportsPark.
The meeting, the penultimate open competition of the outdoor season, drew a large field of athletes from across the county.
Despite tough headwinds hampering many of the sprint events, West Norfolk’s squad produced excellent results, with victories, personal bests and promising debuts spread across the age groups.
Among the youngest competitors, Jessica Watts (U11) impressed with a personal best of 2:18.99 for seventh place in the 600m, while her brother James Watts (U13) also achieved a PB, finishing fourth in the 800m in 2:27.10.
The U15 boys enjoyed a particularly strong evening.
Ben Green sprinted to victory in the 60m final in 8.49s before placing 4th in the 150m on his debut at the distance (20.94s).
Teammate Luke Anderson stormed to first in the 200m with 25.72s, while Myley Gilboy clocked 9.31s in the 60m and 31.31s in the 200m, finishing sixth in both.
In the field, Elly Jackson cleared 1.45m for fifth in the high jump, while Casey Ward achieved a personal best of 12:55.91 to finish 10th in the 3000m.
The U17s also made their mark.
Tom Green claimed first in the 60m with 7.86s and added fourth in the 150m (18.66s).
Ethan Ward secured a commanding win in the one mile, recording a new PB of 4:55.87.
On the women’s side, Rebecca Johnson signalled a strong return to form with second in the 100m (13.08s) and fifth in the 150m (20.13s), while Evie Clayton clocked a PB of 6:18.88 for sixth in the one mile.
Club officials praised the squad’s determination in challenging conditions.
