Dersingham-based Honda racer Phil Wright overcame early setbacks to claim a hard-fought podium finish at Tunerfest North on Bank Holiday Monday.

Qualifying proved frustrating for Wright, as the Racing Hondas Championship staged rounds nine and ten at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Wright’s Civic suffered a mysterious electronic fault that caused the engine to cut out through corners.

Despite the issue, he managed to put himself seventh on the grid for race one.

With the fault resolved, Wright made a strong getaway and was quickly up to fifth by the end of lap one.

However, struggling with front-end grip, he was unable to make further progress and brought the car home in fifth.

A broken rear suspension component was later identified as the cause, with the team working swiftly to fit a replacement ahead of the second race.

The reverse-grid draw placed Wright third on the line for the second contest, and he once again made a lively start.

Running wide into the opening corner cost him momentum, dropping him to sixth, but by the end of lap two, he had fought his way back to fourth with a pair of bold overtakes.

Wright was closing in on third when the red flag flew with a lap remaining, halting proceedings.

A post-race penalty for second-placed Tommy Knight promoted the West Norfolk driver onto the podium in third, adding another piece of silverware to his growing 2025 tally.

Wright now turns his attention to this Sunday’s Go Japan! event at Brands Hatch in Kent, where he aims to build on his strong run of form.
