Snettisham Ladies have been crowned winners of the Shell Women’s League Group A after edging out North Runcton by just a single point in one of the closest finishes the competition has seen.
The league, which also featured Brisley, Aylsham, Sheringham and Sprowston, was fiercely contested throughout the summer.
Although a handful of games were unfortunately conceded, the standard of cricket and the growing enthusiasm around the women’s game in Norfolk have been a real highlight of the season.
Victory means Snettisham will now face Norfolk CC, the winners of Group B, in a play-off clash at Topcroft CC on Sunday, September 21.
Captain Michelle Knott praised her side’s determination and teamwork after securing the title.
Knott said: “We are a great team that all work hard to improve. We’ve worked our way up the league and have many talented players who give their all to each game. It’s a real team effort.
“Thanks to Julie, our coach, and to all the players who turn up week in, week out and to those who step in to help us when needed.”
Coach Julia Fielder echoed those sentiments, highlighting both the squad’s development and the welcoming spirit within the team. Filder added: “I have really enjoyed coaching the ladies this season.
“The results we’ve achieved are largely thanks to their incredible effort and hard work.
“Their determination to keep trying has been wonderful to see. From a coaching point of view, the improvement across the whole squad throughout the season has been very pleasing.”
“I’ve also loved the way they play, always aiming to win while still having fun. This creates a relaxed and positive training atmosphere where players feel confident to try new things and learn new skills.
“The team is very welcoming, which makes it easier for new players to join and give cricket a try.
“They support and encourage each other, which makes my job much easier. I am very proud of them and what they have achieved this year.”
Snettisham’s success not only underlines their own progress but also highlights the growing strength of women’s cricket across Norfolk.
