Defender Tom Wilson admitted that King’s Lynn didn’t play to their full potential after being held to a 1-1 draw by ten-man Darlington on Saturday.

Cedric Main lobbed Darlington into a half-time lead before Michael Gyasi scored his fifth goal of the season to earn Lynn a point.

Wilson said: “We had a game plan, and I think some of the tasks that were given to us, we didn’t probably complete to our maximum, especially with them going down to 10 men.

“I know they went into a low block, but there are ways of beating that and, you know, I don’t think we had enough crosses in the box, probably had enough chances, but we just couldn’t find that cutting edge to go on and win the game.

“You’ve got to give credit to them. They came and had a go, and they defended well, made some good saves, good blocks, and they got the body in the way.

“But from our point of view, with the amount of crosses and chances we’re creating in their box, I do think we probably need to come out at least with more than a goal.”

Lynn are unbeaten in their opening four National League North games – but have drawn their opening two home games 1-1.

Head coach James Rowe said: “I want to give Darlington credit because they’ve come out here with two eights, attacking eights, they played expansively, it was a right battle at the start, end to end, we got the better of that first quarter, we created numerous chances – I think we had 18 crosses in the first half, something ridiculous. And overall we made 24 shots to nine.

“But they played their part, they created chances as well, we weren’t good enough. Our second barrier wasn’t good enough, our counter-pressure wasn’t good enough.

“And I just said to the young group in there, if you come off the one per cents like that and your pressure is a yard off, other teams will exploit you because we’re so expansive in what we do.

“But again, if you’re taking emotion out of the game, and you’re getting something like 37 box entries to their five, and you’re drawing 1-1, something’s seriously wrong with our final product, our final pass, or our final finish, or our final movement.

“But having said that, full credit to Darlington, they stuck in there. The game, even though they had 10 men, packed out a little bit like our first home game of the season.

“But to draw your home games like that, where you’ve had something like 50 shots, is pretty crazy.”

Lynn head to Chorley on Monday with a doubt over defender Reece Hall-Johnson, who missed Saturday’s game with suspected food poisoning.

Defender Wilson is one of only four survivors from the squad that suffered play-off heartache in Lancashire at the end of April.

Looking ahead to the game, he said: “We know what happened last year, but that’s gone. You look at the group, and it’s completely different.

“It’s a completely different style of football and we’re going to take it to them. That’s the game plan. We’ll take it to them and see what they’ve got and hopefully we’ll come out winners.”
