Downham Stow CC Ladies recorded a convincing victory over March Town Marvels in their Iceni Division One fixture on Sunday.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Downham’s bowlers took control from the outset.

Charlotte Beck and Freya Matthews were the pick of the attack with three wickets apiece, while Martha Broad, Molly Pybus and Esther Broad shared the remainder.

The fielding display was equally sharp, with three important catches taken in the field.

March’s most notable contributions came from Laura Perry and Jasna Salim, who each made nine runs before falling in quick succession.

In reply, Downham’s batting wavered early on, but key contributions guided them to their target.

Broad followed up her bowling display by top-scoring with 17, supported by Andrea Hoskins (14) and Esther Broad (12).

March’s bowlers fought hard to keep their side in the game, with Erin Brook taking three wickets, Perry adding two and Kelly Baines one, all bowled.

Though the chase was not without its setbacks, Downham’s middle-order held firm to secure the win.

With two fixtures left in the season, Downham Stow Ladies sit second in the table but face a challenging run-in against the league leaders and third-placed side.

Their next fixture is against City of Cambridge on Monday, August 25, at Stow Hall.
