Spennymoor 0 King’s Lynn Town 5
Michael Gyasi struck a hat-trick as King’s Lynn Town climbed to second in the early National League North standings with a fine win at Spennymoor.
Goals from Bailey Clements and Gyasi gave the Linnets a 2-0 interval lead at the Brewery Field.
Gyasi added two more to his tally in the second half and Reece Hall-Johnson netted a fifth to wrap up a stunning success as Lynn made mincemeat of Spennymoor’s unbeaten start to the new campaign.
Head coach James Rowe shuffled his pack at the Brewery Field by making three changes to the side that secured an excellent 2-0 victory at Hereford on Saturday.
Tom Dickens, Morgan Williams and Gold Omotayo all came into the starting XI, with the trio of Tai Fleming, Sam Collins and Emmanuel Maja all dropping to the bench.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute after the home side switched off at the back and Clements nipped in to convert a pass from Gold Omotayo.
Lynn had further chances to extend their advantage as Dickens forced Brad James to tip over his woodwork and Omotayo stabbed the resulting corner wide.
The home side rarely threatened in the first half, but two minutes before the break Rob Ramshaw came within inches of levelling the scores.
Spennymoor were made to pay for that miss on the stroke of half-time when James failed to hold onto a cross from Clements and Gyasi fired home the loose ball.
The home side came out of the blocks quickly at the start of the second period, but their hopes of getting back into the contest were dashed eight minutes after the restart when Gyasi curled home a stunning effort off the post to make it 3-0.
Lynn hadn’t finished yet and the frontman converted a long ball over the top to complete his treble before Hall-Johnson smashed home a fifth from another Clements cross to round off a breathtaking display on the road.
The Linnets are back in home action on Saturday when Darlington are the visitors to the Docherty Walks Stadium.
