West Norfolk Rowing Club was proud to be represented by 11 crews over the two days of Peterborough Summer Regatta.
This huge event sees multi-lane racing on the purpose-built rowing lake at Thorpe Meadows, with hundreds of crews competing over 1km on the Saturday and 500m on the Sunday.
WNRC crews spanned a wide range of age groups from under-14 Juniors to over-65 Masters, men’s and women’s crews, and a mixed student crew.
Helen Pryer and Liz Palmer won their Saturday heat in the Women’s Masters F double category impressively, finishing ahead of a home Peterborough crew and a composite Bedford crew.
They progressed to their final later in the day, where they improved their time and finished in the silver medal position, four seconds behind the winning crew from Broxbourne.
Georgie Perity and Briar Hobbs finished in bronze medal position in their W.J15.2x final.
Three other WN crews finished second in their Heats and progressed to their event final or the repechage.
Owen Lewis in Op.MasC.1x and the W.MasD double of Claire Murphy and Jennifer Garioch both improved their heat times in their Final, but finished outside the medal places.
Magnus Perity made a great time of 4mins 11secs in his 1km Heat, and progressed to the Repechage, but in a hotly-contested event, he missed out on the Final.
Phillipa Hingley competed for WNRC in W.J14.1x and Olivia Reed Hughes in W.J16.1x, both racing in singles for the first time.
WNRC also enjoyed some very competitive racing on the Sunday 500m course.
The Op.MasE double of Simon Prior and Robert John finished in silver medal place in their final in 1min 54secs, only 1.8secs behind the Bewl Bridge winners.
Claire Murphy finished in bronze medal place in her W.MasC single Final, timed as crossing the line one hundredth of a second ahead of the fourth placed rower.
Milly Ogden and Ben Watson competed in the Mixed double event, finishing with a good time of 1min 58 secs in their Heat, but not in a position to progress this time.
Alistair Mackie raced hard in the Open Masters G single final, where only four seconds separated all four competitors crossing the line.
West Norfolk rowers had the support of many vociferous club members & parents along the course, and gained valuable experience and encouragement from the event.
Captain Simon Prior said: “West Norfolk was established as a community rowing club first, but it is wonderful to see the club now becoming competitive across the age groups, both in these sprint regattas and in head race events.
“We are very proud of all our rowers this weekend. As ever, they showed the club in the very best light.”
