In July it was announced that the youngsters of Shouldham were set to get a new and improved playpark at the King George V Playing Field in Shouldham thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, a £23,700 Community Infrastructure grant from the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk, a £1,000 grant from Arnold Clark and fundraising over £10,000 by the local community.
The work started on 5th Oct with the old equipment being cleared and ground works commenced. Just 50 days later the installation of the new equipment is almost complete, just a few finishing touches and the inspection to complete the build ready for a grand opening at 12pm on Sat 17th December. Shouldham Parish Council Chairman, Nigel Walsh, said that the completion of this project is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Project Play Park team, with Zia and Helen having a hand in the design and specification as well as holding dozens of fund-raising events over 3 years that have been so well supported by the community and enabled access to the grants that have been awarded.
FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund. Penny Horne, spokesperson for FCC Communities Foundation, says: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to the young people and families in Shouldham. FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
Shouldham Parish Councillor Nigel Walsh says he is looking forward to the Grand Opening on 17th December with a Winter Wonderland theme, where it is rumoured Santa is going to pay a visit!
