Downham Town made a dream start to life at Step 4 this afternoon, while there was another resounding win for Fakenham Town and defeat for Heacham.
Visiting Downham only had 14 players for their league opener at Bowers and Pitsea in the Isthmian League North, but it didn’t stop them from coming away with a brilliant 2-1 win.
Dylan Edge fired Dale Stokes’ side in front on the stroke of half-time before Mikey Faulkner replied for the hosts.
Captain Matty Castellan scored the winner for Downham, who next travel to Wroxham on Tuesday night.
Downham took to X on the final whistle to say: “A brilliant 2-1 win on the road at Bowers and Pitsea. A really hard graft as we had to dig in to hold on under pressure towards the end.”
Fakenham Town lead the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division standings after three games, following a resounding 5-1 on their travels at Hadleigh United.
The Ghosts have found the back of the net 12 times in their opening three fixtures, with Jake Watts netting two more times to take his tally to six in all competitions already.
Lewis Bonner, Jamie Smith and Jack Robinson also scored for Andy Cunningham’s side, who entertain Mulbarton Wanderers at the Daly Group Stadium on Tuesday night.
Heacham suffered defeat by the odd goal in five after twice taking the lead at Harleston Town.
Conall Forde fired the Magpies in front and, after the home side had redressed the balance through Rob Turner, Jake Poore put Paul Hunt’s side back in front.
But the home side battled back to take all three points after Joe Manning headed in a Josh Durham cross to make it 2-2 before Turner turned provider for the home side to make it 3-2 through Archie Gilmore.
