West Norfolk Athletics Club ended the EMAC (Eastern Masters Athletics Club) series in style last Wednesday.
From personal bests to club records, the athletes delivered a string of impressive performances across the track and field disciplines at Alive Lynnsport.
Thomas Collison was among the standout performers on the evening.
Competing in the M35+ category, he showed grit and determination throughout.
He was placed fifth in the 200m with a time of 40.90 seconds, but truly shone in the field, jumping a personal best of 5.75m in the triple jump to take fourth place.
He also set a new best in the discus (non-scoring) with a throw of 17.35m.
Ricky Bailey continued his season-long consistency with a second-place finish in the M50+ javelin (23.56m) and third in the discus (15.94m). He was also part of the M50+ relay team that secured second with a time of 3:20.20.
Teammate Lee Tunmore added valuable points across multiple events, taking third in the 200m (31.50s) and triple jump (8.14m), and contributing in the non-scoring javelin and discus.
Darren Easter delivered a solid 800m (2:31.90) for third in the M50+ category and ran a crucial leg in the same relay team.
His commitment to stay on and race despite an early plan to head home showed great team spirit.
Katrina Wasteney’s busy evening saw her compete in four tough events, taking second in both the 800m (3:07.70) and 300m hurdles (82.90s), while securing third in the 3000m (13:37.20) and fourth in the discus (11.34m).
Nicky Neill provided one of the highlights of the night, smashing the club record in the W50+ javelin with a throw of 19.91m, where she was placed second.
She also came second in the 200m (34.10s) and finished fourth in the discus (12.30m).
Callum Stanforth made an eye-catching league debut in the M35+ 800m, finishing second in an impressive 2:07.90.
In the M60+ 3000m, Carl Pickett also made his league debut, clocking 12:05.10 for a confident second-place finish.
Jamie Bransgrove took on the 400m hurdles, finishing third in 90.00 seconds, and tried his hand at triple jump (non-scoring), leaping 6.42m.
His willingness to step out of his comfort zone and contribute to the team effort was widely praised.
Ben Collison rounded off a strong evening for the club’s throwers with personal bests in both the discus (14.42m, 4th M35+) and javelin (14.26m, non-scoring).
The latter was a long-awaited milestone and a well-earned reward for his continued hard work
With both the men’s and women’s teams finishing fifth on the night, the club can look back with pride on a competitive and enjoyable EMAC season.
A huge thank you goes to all athletes who took part across the series, as well as to the tireless officials and volunteers who made each event run smoothly.
Attention now turns to building on this success in next year’s campaign.
