King’s Lynn are approaching decision day as to which of their youngsters takes the Rising Star berth for the remaining weeks of the season.

The Stars started the campaign with Ashton Boughen in their No.7 position, but he stepped away from the sport earlier in the summer due to injuries and a crisis of confidence.

Since then, the club have promoted from within by giving Premiership opportunities to two riders from the Young Stars team, Luke Harison and Jody Scott.

Both have grasped the chance and scored useful points for the senior side, with the club using the regulations to allow the two riders to share the position interchangeably effectively.

However, no team changes are permitted after 75 per cent of the season has been completed, a rule more designed to address transfers made higher up the team.

The Stars are due to race their 18th fixture out of 24 a week on Monday when they visit Birmingham, so by that stage they need to have settled on which rider will complete the season.

Co-promoter Dale Allitt said: “It’s been a useful opportunity for both Luke and Jody, they were the best options available to us when Ashton quit, and they have both done well.

“It suited everyone at the time because neither was in a position where they wanted to commit full-time, and both of them are supported by their fathers who have their own work commitments.

“But we are coming up the point where we have to decide which of them will do the last six matches, as we aren’t able to continue making team re-declarations after that point.

“We’ve had discussions with both of them and also looked at their racing commitments elsewhere to see who it is best suited to, because in terms of performance, there has been very little in it.

“The main thing is that it has been valuable experience for both riders, and really it’s exactly the reason why we’ve been running the National Development Trophy team.

“If we’d looked elsewhere for a Rising Star when we had two perfectly good candidates already at the club, there really wouldn’t be any point in having the NDT side.”
