Local youngster Jody Scott has reflected on a dream home debut which saw him play his part in King’s Lynn’s local derby win over Ipswich.
The 18-year-old Norfolk-born racer has watched numerous recent clashes between the clubs from the terraces, in which the Witches have frequently held the upper hand.
But on a terrific night for the Stars as a whole, Monday saw Lynn emerge on top with a 51-39 win to give their play-off push renewed spark.
And Scott, who had also impressed in the away win at Oxford four nights earlier, produced one of the highlights of the night when he combined with Czech star Jan Kvech for a 5-1 in Heat 2.
Scott said: “I’m absolutely chuffed to have the opportunity to race for the Stars.
“I’ve been a fan since I was about 12, so coming here to line up for them was a massive achievement for myself and a real confidence boost.
“The first ride settled me down, getting that 5-1 with Jan (Kvech) was another boost and great experience, and I thought I did fairly decent throughout the night.
“There were just a few mistakes I made but that’s how I learn, so I’ll just put that into my next meetings.
“This whole Premiership thing for me is just to learn and get experience, and to be learning from the big boys.
“I was riding against Jason Doyle, and I couldn’t think of that a few years ago, so hopefully I’ll get some more opportunities along the way and keep progressing.”
Scott is currently sharing the Rising Star position with fellow Young Stars rider Luke Harrison as the Stars seek a resolution to the conundrum that is the currently injured Ashton Boughen.
Out with a shoulder problem after a confidence-sapping run of results, Boughen has now lost his place with his Championship club Glasgow, who have moved for promising young Dane Villads Nagel.
Scott, though, has paid tribute to his Lynn team-mates for the way in which they have welcomed him into the side, especially in what was always going to be an intense atmosphere against Ipswich.
He said: “I’ve known all about the local derby for many years now from when I came down here to support the Stars, so to be in the meeting was unbelievable.
“I can’t get it out of my head how crazy it is, and it was just such a great feeling.
“The other riders were great. Nicolai (Klindt) is a really good, supportive rider, I always ask him for tips and he gives me the answer straightaway – he has a lot of experience so I try to take that from him.
“Bomber (Chris Harris) was coming up to me before every race I went out to wish me luck and tell me what was going on with the track, so I really appreciate that.”
