West Norfolk athletes were again in fine fettle at he second fixture of the Easter Masters Athletics Club (EMAC) League.The event, hosted on the Cambridge athletics track, brought together seasoned athletes aged 35 and over for an evening of spirited competition.West Norfolk AC fielded 11 committed athletes across a range of track and field events, producing an impressive performance.The club finished fifth overall in both the men’s and women’s categories, with several standout efforts despite a smaller women’s team.Jen Gosnell took on the throws for the W35-49 category.She secured third place in both javelin (15.02m) and discus (15.91m), the latter just shy of her season’s best.W50-59 Nicky Neill had a busy evening, running her first 200m of the season in 34.6 seconds.She also tackled the gruelling 2k walk, finishing third in 14:47.1. Nicky was second in both the javelin (16.51m) and discus (16.50m). Katrina Wasteney stepped down an age group for the 200m, finishing 3rd in 41.1 seconds.Back in her own category, she clocked 13:55.5 for second in the 3000m and recorded a season’s best of 12:54.4 in the 2k walk for third.Adam Howard was the sole representative in the M35-49 category.He won the 2k walk in a personal best and club record time of 11:36.9. He also threw 29.80m in the javelin and 17.40m in the discus, both for fourth place. In the M50-59 category, Darren Easter delivered a thrilling sprint finish to win the 800m with a PB of 2:30.8.Lee Tunmore had a solid evening and was placed fourth in the 200m (31.7s), javelin (17.72m), and fifth in the triple jump (7.07m). Despite feeling under the weather, John Greenhalgh ran a determined 3000m in 13:19.1 to take 5th.Ricky Bailey competed as an M35 in the 200m (35.8s, 5th), for third in the M50 2k walk (15:52.5), fifth in the discus (15.24m), and threw 22.47m in the javelin as a non-scorer. Shaun Mann made his club debut in style, running down an age group in the 3000m and finishing 3rd in 10:04.5.M60+:Ian Reeve, recovering from a groin strain, stepped back from his usual events but still won the javelin with a 28.64m throw.Greg Davis tried discus for the first time, throwing 13.1m (5th). He also ran a solid 3000m in 12:29 to finish third and was team MVP off the track with his homemade brownies!The men’s M50-59 4x400m relay team of Tunmore, Davis, Easter, and Mann finished third with a time of 4:55.8.Special thanks to officials Ben Collison, Martin Koenigsberger, and Ian Reeve, who supported the event, although the latter couldn’t resist picking up the javelinWest Norfolk AC trains at Lynnsport on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
