New King’s Lynn Town defender Archie Crowther is on the crest of a wave after becoming the club’s fourth summer signing. The Midlands-based defender arrives at The Walks from Alvechurch after learning of Lynn’s desire to sign him while jet-skiing on holiday in Rhodes.Crowther said: “I’d just got off a jet ski in Rhodes. I got off and I spoke to the gaffer probably Tuesday night and Wednesday, got all the stuff sent over and signed it, and got here for today.”I’ve spoken to people who have played against King’s Lynn and they’ve all said it’s a great club that can help young players to develop massively and allow them to express themselves.”I just think as a whole package, it is the perfect place for me. You look at the stadium today, it’s a good set-up and stuff as well, which is important.”Everyone says it’s a great group of lads, so coming in and meeting everyone will help me to just settle in and hopefully enjoy my football.”The 21-year-old is relishing the prospect of playing higher up the pyramid following an impressive campaign at the heart of Church’s defence in the Southern League Central Premier last season. Crowther, who stands at 6ft 4ins tall, scored five goals from the back last season and made 53 appearances in all competitions after a spell with Dundee north of the border “I’ve got to focus on here and now, and I think right now this is the best place for me to be. It’s about playing football.”You’re never going to go anywhere in football if you sit on the bench, so I need to play. I want to progress up the leagues with King’s Lynn and become the best player I can be.”Crowther was offered new terms in the Midlands, but the youngster felt it was the best time to make the next step in his career. “They offered me a re-engagement and I declined the terms. Once I’d done that, it allowed me to go and talk to other clubs.”I spoke to quite a few clubs at the level I was at last year and also a few at this level. With Lynn being full-time and the size of the club and stuff, I just thought it was right. “When I was in Scotland, I was full-time and I was there for a year. I did the Gordon Strachan Football Foundation at college.”Alvechurch used to train in the mornings. Last year, we trained Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, but obviously, this is full-time and that was like a hybrid system. The youngster hopes he can continue his goalscoring exploits with Lynn.”I don’t think I got one until about November time, something like that, then I just got a little flurry of them,” he said.”When the new gaffer came in, I got a flurry of set-piece goals. Then I scored one with my feet at the end of the season, which was a massive surprise, so it was a decent return.”Hopefully, I’ll get some more next year as well.”
