Reigning Super One Intermax Kart champion Jenson Sayell moved himself up to third in the championship standings after rounds five and six in Dorset.Competing at the Clay Pigeon Raceway, the Marshland St James driver just missed out on a podium place on Saturday, but finished third on Sunday to end the weekend on a high. The youngster qualified third on Saturday. In a competitive 25-kart grid with many place changes, Sayell held third until lap seven but then dropped to fourth, where he finished. In Heat 2, it was immediately obvious that Sayell was quick, taking the fastest lap on lap two.He moved into second on lap six and took two more fastest laps (including the fastest of the race) and closed the gap to the leader, overtaking him on the penultimate lap for the lead. However, contact on the final lap sent him wide to cross the line second.Sayell qualified third for the final. He started well, holding third until lap seven when he was passed, dropping him to fourth. With a drop in pace in the second half of the race, Sayell was unable to improve and missed out on a podium. The race ace qualified sixth on Sunday, just two tenths of a second off pole.He made a good start in Heat One, working his way up to fourth on lap one.As places swapped ahead, Sayell moved up to third, but with a train of six karts, he slipped wide whilst trying to overtake and eventually finished fifth. Heat two saw another excellent start with Sayell moving into third from sixth on the first lap.In a close-fought battle with places changing frequently, Sayell dropped to fourth with less than a tenth of a second separating second from fourth place at the flag. However, after post-race penalties, Sayell was promoted to third.Sayell qualified third for the final and was up to second on the first lap. He took the lead on lap five but was unable to hold it, dropping to third a lap later. He was further demoted on lap eight but, after a determined drive, took back third for the final podium place on lap 12 of 14, securing the fastest lap of the race two laps later.”Jenson battled hard in a very competitive weekend’s racing to secure some solid points and is now third in the championship at the halfway point,” said dad Rob.”It was nice to take home a bit of silverware again after his crash in Round 4’s Final.”Sayell’s next outing is closer to home at the Paul Fletcher International circuit in Lincolnshire, when he will be contesting Round 4 of the CKC championship.
