King’s Lynn put in their best performance of the season and were rewarded with a thumping 59-31 win over Oxford as their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership campaign gathers momentum. All seven PSH Environmental Stars riders won at least one race and Jan Kvech returned to top form with a paid maximum from four rides, whilst Richard Lawson tallied paid-13 from five. The Stars could in fact have topped the 60-point mark but for a couple of falls, with Chris Harris coming to grief from second place in Heat 11 when Lynn were on a 5-1, whilst Niels-Kristian Iversen fell on the first bend of Heat 14 and was disqualified. But these were relatively minor setbacks although there was one heavier incident on the night as guest Tom Brennan and Charles Wright were involved in a nasty Heat 10 pile-up after Brennan lost his chain from contact with Peter Kildemand. Both were able to walk away but whilst Brennan could continue in the meeting and won the re-run, Wright took no further part with concerns over a hand injury.Lynn made a sensational start to the meeting with four 5-1s in the first five races, and whilst Ashton Boughen proved the exception when he came last in Heat 2, the Rising Star served notice of his potential with a great ride to win Heat 4 ahead of team-mate Lawson and Polish star Maciej Janowski. The run of 5-1s was ended in Heat 6 when Janowski re-passed Brennan for second place, although he couldn’t stop Kvech out-front, but it did turn out to be Janowski’s last defeat as the Oxford skipper again showed his liking for his former home track at the AFA. Unfortunately for the Spires there was little else to encourage them except a lively display from their Rising Star Luke Killeen, who joined Erik Riss for a 3-3 behind Kvech in Heat 8 after a clear Harris/Lawson 5-1 one race earlier. The visitors’ sole advantage came in Heat 9 with a 4-2 headed by Janowski, although Iversen quickly got the better of Wright for second, and Stars then returned to domination with a 5-1 from Brennan and Kvech in Heat 10 to make it 42-18.Harris’s fall in Heat 11 ultimately prevented him from ending unbeaten, but the seventh 5-1 of the night did follow in Heat 12 with Boughen riding an excellent race at the front whilst Nicolai Klindt made it inside Francis Gusts off the fourth bend. That was the end of the damage for the Spires as the last three races were shared, Janowski taking the honours in Heats 13 and 15 whilst Harris won the fourteenth after Iversen had been disqualified. Lawson said: “It’s been a good night. I think actually our scores haven’t reflected the pre-season, we’ve had mechanicals and a bit of bad luck, but I think tonight is the night it has all come together.“We never stopped believing in ourselves, especially at home, and I think the track was a little gripper than normal which suited us. “Once you make a good start and start winning races, the confidence flows. I expected Oxford to kick on mid-part, that’s what happened in the previous meeting, but we kept our end up and it feels good.”Stars’ next fixture is the big Bank Holiday trip to Ipswich next Monday (2.15pm) but before that the Young Stars take centre stage when they face Birmingham at the AFA on Wednesday. King’s Lynn 59: Richard Lawson 10+3, Jan Kvech 10+2, Niels-Kristian Iversen 9+1, Chris Harris 9, Tom Brennan 8+1, Nicolai Klindt 7+2, Ashton Boughen 6.Oxford 31: Maciej Janowski 12, Luke Killeen 6+1, Erik Riss 5+1, Peter Kildemand 3, Francis Gusts 2+1, Charles Wright 2, Rohan Tungate 1+1.
